Skiing

Hello, New Year!

I can't believe I'm standing at the precipice of another new year. I spent 2016 adjusting to our new home out West, so for me, this new year means that I can finally relax a bit and simply enjoy this new place I call home.

Our family ended 2016 with a trip to Keystone for our first lesson in skiing. It was so wonderful to be able to take a break from work, school, and the increasingly busy holidays to enjoy time together as a family. As my 9-year old expressed numerous times leading up to our vacation, "No one should be expected to learn anything this close to Christmas." It's kind of hard to argue with that! We all needed a break!

I surprised everyone (myself included) with how quick I picked up skiing. My impressive first attempts didn't amount to much once my two boys were added to the mix. We were like the Three Stooges getting on and off the ski lift. Andrew survived frost nip (he thought it would be a good idea to eat frozen yogurt without gloves during Winter Storm Decima). And I got separated from Zach for two hours on our first 4 mile trail attempt. Let's just say that there were both good times and bad times had by all.

I blinked and here it is...2017! I admit that I've started the year off slowly. My Christmas decorations are still up – I'm milking it for all its got! And I refuse to make resolutions that won't be kept. Instead, I resolve to take pleasure in the small things, to foster deeper relationships, and to be thankful for this life I've been given. Here's to peace in 2017, ya'll!
